Friday Flickr Favorite

DC Modern Quilt Guild today

Thanks to everyone for joining us last Saturday at Capital Quilts. I think everyone had a great time, and it was wonderful to meet so many people. If you are nervous about coming, or worried that you won't know anyone, I think the 7 or so new people this month would tell you you have nothing to worry about. Our next meeting is in September:

SEPTEMBERWhen: Saturday, September 15 (Saturday)
Where: Westover Library, Arlington, 10-4
What: 100 Quilts for Kids Charity Sewing Day

Zig Zag ROAR 007

Our Friday Flickr Favorite is from someone new to the Guild and to quilting. This is a fun zig zag quilt (love the scrappy binding) for 100 Quilts for Kids. Here is what Jess had to say about her quilt:

Hi. I'm Jess and that's my quilt! As Katie mentioned, I am new to quilting and to the group. I bought my sewing machine in November and made a few bags and things, then made my first quilt on a bit of a whim in June. Some friends were expecting their first child and by the time I decided to make them something, it was too late for a knitted or crocheted afghan, so a quilt it was.

This zig zag quilt (which I've named Zig Zag ROAR because of the dinosaur print) is made almost entirely (everything except for the Kona White) from fabric leftover from my first quilt. I definitely still need some practice cutting and seaming accurately so my corners match, but I'm getting better. I'm also still getting acquainted with my sewing machine and what tools (i.e. thread, needle size, foot) to use for each part of the quilt-making process.

Anyway, thanks for picking my quilt! I'm excited to get to know everyone better and take advantage of your expertise.

Jess
