QuiltCon Charity Quilt

Hi everyone,

I'm so excited!  We've received our blocks for the QuiltCon charity quilt drive, in which guilds across the country are all volunteering to help make 46 twin-sized quilts for every bed at the Austin Children's Shelter.  I'm hoping that y'all can help at our meeting on Saturday by bringing any fabric/scraps that you have in the appropriate colors to make more blocks and to help get the top put together.  We're lucky - we received improv blocks, which should be fun and quick (and perhaps a new experience for some of you)!  Hopefully when we've made a few more blocks, we can decide on a layout and get it pieced together.  In fact, it's my hope that we can get the front and back done, and maybe even get the sandwich made so we can pass it along to our volunteer free motion quilter (assuming Aubrey is still game), or, if lots of people are interested in quilting, we can quilt it in smaller segments and I'll put the segments together and bind it/mail it.  We are supposed to have it mailed by February 1st (with a sleeve and label added), so there's not a ton of time left.

Here are the blocks we have so far:

We need to turn these blocks, donated from folks all over the country, into a quilt ranging in size from 68”x 88” to 72” x 92”.  The color palette is, generally, tangerine, gold, citrine, lime, aqua, turquoise, white, and gray, and we can use solids or prints, though they ask that we only use colors in the QuiltCon logo, so the prints may need to be fairly monochromatic.  If you want to bring an already completed block, please make sure that it is 12.5" tall by any width that you'd like.

From http://themodernquiltguild.com/tag/quiltcon-block-challenge-guidelines/ (which also has lots of great information about the blocks generally):

If you plan to use Robert Kaufman’s Kona Solids, I recommend: (from top to bottom) Cyan, Azure, Candy Green, Lime, Chartreuse, Buttercup, School Bus, Tangerine, White, Medium Grey, and Coal.
If you plan to use Michael Miller’s Cotton Couture Solids, I recommend (from top to bottom): Turquoise, Aqua, Luna, Apple, Limeade, Starfruit, Orange, Clementine, Bright White, Fog, and Gray.

So, please look through your stash/scrap bins, put on your creative cap, and let's help make a difference in a kid's life!  Thanks so much, and I'm looking forward to seeing folks on Saturday!

  2. I don't know that I've got fabric in the theme colors, but I'm totally game to be the quilter! I've got twin size batting on hand...should I bring it Saturday?

Also, I can handle the quilting and the label...any volunteers for the sleeve/binding?

Can't wait to see everyone Saturday!
