Meeting this Saturday and Upcoming Quilt Shows

Just a reminder of our upcoming meeting/free sewing day:
Saturday, April 27th, from 10:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. at
Arlington Central Library
1015 N. Quincy St.
Arlington, VA 22201

This is not the Westover Library we usually use in Arlington!  This location has a bigger room than the ones we've been using, so we should be able to spread out a bit.  So excited about how our group is growing!

This location may not have as many outlets as we have been used to having, so please bring your extension cords and power strips if you have them.

This is the reveal meeting for our handmade name tags (you finished yours, right?!).

We are having a Scrap Dump Swap, which will be just as it sounds- we all dump out our unwanted (or willing to be shared) scraps, and then sift through for new treasures!  Anything leftover that is unwanted will go to the Project Linus group at Patches.

Also, please bring your unwanted orphan blocks to see if we have enough for a charity quilt or two (and someone who wants to put them together!).

For those of you who can't make it all day, our "business" meeting will happen at around 1:00 p.m., when we'll do introductions and show-and-tell (including name tags), announcements, door prizes from our awesome sponsors (Quilter's Dream Batting and Creative Sewlutions), and the scrap dump swap and orphan block pool.
We will not be holding elections at the meeting- it will be done online instead.  Katie (Blakesley) will fill us in on the details for that soon.

Also, please know that there will be a book sale in the parking deck that morning, so you may want to arrive early to check out the craft book selection!

Please comment if you are coming, and let us know if you can bring one of the following items to share:
Snacks
Iron and ironing board
Cutting mat, ruler, rotary cutter
With about 25 people in attendance at our last few meetings, it would be nice to have 3-4 each of cutting and pressing stations.  Please label your items, especially the rulers and rotary cutters.

Can't wait to see you all there!

This weekend is also the Friendship Star Quilt Show at the Montgomery County Fairgrounds.
The hours are:
Friday, April 26th 12-6
Saturday, April 27th 10-6 (same day as our meeting)
Sunday, April 28th 10-4

Also coming up May 9-11 is the Original Sewing and Quilting Expo at the Baltimore Convention Center.  This one has, among other things, a little exhibit of mini quilts from the Chicago MQG and a pretty extensive list of vendors
Hours are:

Thursday, May 9th 10-6
Friday, May 10th  10-6
Saturday, May 11th 10- 5:30

We'll put up discussion topics on Flickr for the quilt shows to see if anyone wants to meet up or carpool to these events!
See you Saturday!
