Let's exhibit our work!

Here's some news we're really excited about:

We are working to find some different ways that we as a group can display our quilts to the public.  A full-on quilt show is a distant dream for now, but we are going to start applying to have our work displayed at different venues around the metro area.

One venue that Natalie has found and we would like to apply to is the Artisphere in Rosslyn, VA.  We will need to fill out an application by the end of July in order to apply for exhibition in 2014.  Part of the application process requires pictures of the art work we wish to display and a brief description of each.  If this is something you would be interested in, we are asking members to submit a clear picture of the entire quilt* they wish to enter with a brief description of it (name, materials used, techniques, inspiration, etc.).

Current members (defined as those who have attended a meeting within the last year) who are Flickr members will be sent an invitation to join a public (invitation-only) Flickr group for the purpose of sharing photos of our finished work.  If you are not on Flickr, but would like to participate, you may email your photos to dcmodquilts@gmail.com .  If you are not a current member but are planning on joining, please contact us at that email address as well!  New members are absolutely welcome to submit work for this application.

Please keep the following information in mind...

-we want to highlight the DCMQG so please submit only quilts that you consider to be Modern in style. (Please refer to the National MQG's definition of Modern Quilting if you would like additional guidance on this)

-any size quilts will be considered but they must have been completed within the last 5 years.

-up to 2 quilts per member will be considered

-this submission is only for the application process and we will make final decisions about the actual exhibit later on if we get chosen (priority will be given to those who submit for the application- if there isn't enough interest then another call for participation will be open once we know we have been accepted)

- if our group gets accepted, the exhibit will be for paying members only (since by the time of the exhibit we will have formalized our membership)

*Please let us know if it is difficult for you to get a high-quality picture of your quilt(s); we may be able to help with that.  I (Jessie) will be at the Finch Sewing Studio meeting on June 22 and would be happy to photograph any quilts anyone brings along.  It's always easier with lots of hands to help!  If you're not coming out to the Finch, we may still be able to work something out.

I hope you guys are as excited about this as I am- thank you Natalie for organizing this great opportunity!
