By-Laws review time!

Hi Everyone,

Anna G, Heather T, Natalie H and I have been meeting weekly (via Skype) for about a month and a half to get our ducks all in a row for joining the national MQG.  The first thing we really needed to work on was to revise our by-laws to bring them up to speed with what the national MQG suggests.  A lot of research and discussion went into this, both the original draft and the current additions and modifications, and now we would like to open it up for a two-week public comment and discussion period.  The draft is on a tab above, and once you have read it, there is a Flickr Discussion board where you may post any of your thoughts, comments, or suggestions.

After the discussion period, we will be sending out a survey which will be a yea/nay vote- you may vote to accept the draft, or to continue revising it.  The survey goes out July 23rd, and you will have 10 days to return it.
The survey will be sent to current members, which is defined (for now) as a person who has attended at least one event in the past year.  Everyone who is on our list of current members has also received this information and a copy of the draft in an email.  If you are a current member and did not receive the email, please contact us and we'll get you on the list!

I want to give a special shout out to our secretary Anna G, who took our Frankenstein of a document (we had bits of legalese from several different samples as well as several different writers working on this over a couple of years- it was a beast) and edited it into the beautifully easy -to-read format you see here.  Thank you a million times, Anna!

I thought you might be interested to know what else the officers have been up to- in addition to all the research we've done in order to revise the by-laws, we have:
  • appointed four additional board members to assist us with swaps, education, retreats, and charity work, (I'll give them the spotlight in a separate post)
  • roughed out the meeting schedule for the rest of this year and 2014 (also will be found on the blog soon)
  • researched and composed several versions of a budget for the rest of this year and 2014 (this will also get a two-week review period followed by a yea/nay vote)
  • Identified a potential gallery space in which to exhibit our quilts
All while keeping up with what the guild is doing on a national level and brainstorming ideas for more of the fun stuff that we want to keep on planning!  Thanks to everyone who comes out to our meetings and makes this such a great group to be a part of!
