Field Trips!

We are planning a couple of field trips in February, so get out your calendars.

Field Trip One

On February 7th we will have a museum meetup at the Daughters of the American Revolution Museum at 1776 D Street NW Washington, D.C.  We will meet at 10:30 and explore the quilt exhibit currently on display.  Those that are interested may go out for lunch after the exhibit.

Exhibit information from the DAR Website:
"October 3, 2014 - September 5, 2015
Eye on Elegance: Early Quilts of Maryland and Virginia introduces visitors to a little known history of early American quilts. The exhibition looks at quilts and their makers from Maryland and Virginia 1790 to 1860. The quilts, made from the finest imported fabrics of the time, reflect the refined taste, style, and wealth of the women artists.

Parking information from the DAR Website:
"Q: Is there parking at the DAR Museum and what is the nearest Metro station?
A: There is limited parking at the DAR Museum. On most days some metered parking ($1 per hour in change) is available. Nearby garages can be found on Pennsylvania, 17th and 18th streets. The closest metro stops are Farragut West (Blue and Orange lines) and Farragut North (Red line)."

Round6
This is Jane's version of the medallion quilt she saw at the DAR.
Here is a link to the original quilt hanging in the exhibit.

Jane inspired this field trip.  She went to the exhibit, took a picture of a block from one of the quilts and then remade the block in Denyse Schmidt and Anna Maria Horner fabrics and the two look remarkably similar.

Field Trip Two

Pam of Del Ray Fabrics has invited us to check out her fabric stock on February 28th from 10-12am.  Pam sells fabrics online and out of her home in the Del Ray neighborhood of Alexandria.  She carries Denyse Schmidt, Tula Pink, Anna Maria Horner, Birch Organics, and many more pretty pretty things.  Please RSVP by emailing dcmodquilts@gmail.com to get the address.  We would like a few volunteers to bring snacks.  After some shopping and visiting at Pam's house, interested members may get lunch at one of the nearby restaurants or coffee shops.

Purchases from an old trip to Del Ray fabrics
Spoils from a previous shopping trip at Del Ray.

This field trip was inspired by Dana Seltzer.  She and I (Melinda) both love shopping Pam's outdoor sale days and we'd like to make sure that our other guild members know about a great local fabric resource.
