DCMQG Newsroom

This is a heavy duty post so get out your calendars.

  • This Saturday, February 7th, we will have a museum meetup at the Daughters of the American Revolution Museum at 1776 D Street NW Washington, D.C. We will meet at 10:30 and explore the quilt exhibit currently on display. Those that are interested may go out for lunch after the exhibit. Information about the exhibit and parking are on this post or on the DAR Museum site.

  • On Sunday, June 7th, DCMQG will be hosting Denyse Schmidt for a workshop and a lecture. Both events will take place at Northern Virginia Community College, Alexandria campus. The workshop will take place from 11am to 4pm (orientation at 10:30am) and is only open to 20 participants. The lecture portion will be from 5:30pm-7pm and will be open to the entire membership and the general public. We anticipate that demand for workshop slots will be greater than the number of spots available; therefore, we have decided that workshop slots will be allocated by random lottery. The names of all interested members who are in good standing (i.e. dues paid and guild commitments completed) will be entered in the lottery. The workshop cost will be $135 and include lunch. Lottery sign-up will start the second week of February with information by email.

  • In other event news, Carolyn Friedlander will be visiting the Vienna Quilters Unlimited group in March.  She'll have a trunk show for free on Tuesday, March 17th at 7pm at the Vienna Fire Station.  DCMQG members that are interested in going should email me (dcmodquilts@gmail.com) to RSVP.  Then I can give the organizer the number of people coming from our group.  Carolyn will also be doing a workshop (the Facing East quilt pattern from her book) with their group and the organizer has said that there are still spots available.  The workshop is from 9-3:30 on Wednesday, March 18th.  The cost for that workshop ranges from $25 to $50 depending on if you are a Vienna QU member, a different QU member or if you need to join QU to take the workshop.  If you want to attend the workshop, please email me for that flyer.  Again, I need to keep in touch with the organizer to make sure there is room.

  • Mark your calendars for the DCMQG Retreat dates!  We have August 14-16 and Nov 20-22 reserved.  I cannot express how excited I am to sew with friends of the guild for a whole weekend, or two!

  • Last, but not least, do any of our members live in Falls Church?  We have a possible meeting site in Falls Church that would be a lot cheaper to meet at if a member living there books the meeting.  If you do live in Falls Church, please email me at dcmodquilts@gmail.com.
