So far, we haven't had anyone volunteer to be on the board for the guild in 2016.  So the current board came up with this little gem:

The top ten reasons why you should volunteer for the board...
drum roll please....

10. You get to Skype with your fellow board members regularly, in your PJs if you like..
9.   You get to make new BFFs with all of your favorite quilting celebrities - who is coming next year?
8.   Don't like something? Change it!

7.   Access to educational and inspiring national MQG leadership materials/webinars on the MQG website.
6.   You will get to sneak around at meetings and take pictures.
5.   You get to learn cool things about by-laws and insurance.
4.   Strut your writing style with entertaining, informative blog posts.

3.   You get to help shape the future direction of the guild.
2.   You can request that people call you Madam (or Mr.) President (or Vice President, Treasurer or Secretary).  Either way, you'll sound fancypants.

and the number one reason why you should volunteer for the board...
1.   We can't do it without you!

Refer to this post for position details and ask Alyson any questions you have at alyson@hastyquilter.net.

In other news, the president of the Baltimore MQG asked me to announce that they have five slots left in their retreat in February.

If you are interested in this opportunity, send an email to dcmodquilts@gmail.com and I'll send you the contact.

Our November meeting is this Saturday, Nov 7th from 10am-4pm at Westover Library in Arlington.  Heather will be bringing fabric and instructions to sew some improv with intent blocks for the QuiltCon Charity Quilt and the organizer for our quilt drive at DC General Homeless Shelter will be by to speak with us.  Please bring extension cords, ironing boards and irons.  We had one mini ironing board and iron available at the last meeting.

Lastly, don't forget to vote yea or nay on the proposed by-law changes.  Votes will be accepted through November 9th.

  1. Is the retreat only for members of a MQ guild?

    1. I don't have anything to do with planning the Baltimore retreat so you'd have to ask them.

  2. I will bring my antique iron and board to Westovet Library. And some cords to power it up. 😃
