DCMQG Field Trip: Shop and Stitch this Saturday in Alexandria!

Fabrics purchased at last year's Del Ray Fabrics field trip!

Hope everyone has survived the latest round of winter here in the DMV area!  It's been fun seeing what everyone has been working on over at the Instagram hashtag #DCMQGsnowalong.  After all the cabin fever and snow-day sewing, perhaps you'll be up for a DCMQG field trip this weekend??  We've planned a fun day of fabric shopping and hand sewing in Alexandria this Saturday, February 20th.  First up in the morning, we've been cordially invited to shop at Del Ray Fabrics.  Our business member Pam sells the most swoon-worthy selection of fabrics at her home in Alexandria.  Well worth the wait and trip!  So join us between 10am and 12pm for a bit of group fabric enabling!

After shopping, we'll head over to Teaism in north Old Town for some lunch, tea, and hand-sewing from 12pm to 4 pm.  Bring your appetites and favorite handwork project!  Our member Frederick has also agreed to talk with us about his tips, tricks, and tools for hand quilting, and particularly big-stitching (thicker threads, larger needles).  Plus, I'll bet any of our other veteran hand-stitchers present will be happy to give their advice too!  Frederick's talk will start around 1:30pm after people are finished with lunch.

Please note: If you're planning to attend this Saturday's meeting, please comment here or email me at dcmqgvp@gmail.com so we can get a rough head count!  We'll send out the address for Del Ray Fabrics via email so be on the lookout for that later this week.

Teaism is located at 682 North Saint Asaph St., Alexandria, VA, 22314.   Check out their menu here!  Hope to see you there.  Please email me at dcmqgvp@gmail.com with any questions about this weekend's activities!

Upcoming meetings

We are lucky to have a couple DC residents who booked a few hours for an additional (informal; i.e., not an official DCMQG meeting) sewing afternoon on Sunday, February 28th from 1pm - 5pm.  Bring your machines and projects and meet us at the downstairs conference room at the Georgetown Library on 2/28.  Bonus: Parking is pretty easy and mostly free on Sundays.  :-)

And looking ahead to the month of March (almost Spring!), we'll be having a sewing meeting at Capital Quilts in Gaithersburg, MD on Saturday, March 26th from 10am - 4pm.
