Deadlines, Updates, and Happenings!

Hi Everyone,

I hope all DCMQG members are having a great, if a little steamy, summer so far!

This post is going to be a bit bullet-point heavy since there is a LOT to cover and it's been a while since I did a good update.

  • Dues
Membership renewal season is upon us!  The DCMQG operates on a July 1 - June 30 year so we are officially in the new year.  Please pay your dues by August 15th, 2016; after which point you'll be removed from the guild messages and the National MGQ roster.  For your convenience, there is a Paypal button in the upper right corner of this blog!  Or you can mail a check directly to Robin, or pay in cash at the July meeting.
  • T-shirts
T-shirts featuring the re-designed DCMQG logo are now available for pre-ordering.  We ask that you fill out the Google form for which size/type of T-shirt you'd like (there are charcoal grey and mint green/blue color options) and then pre-pay via the Paypal link at the end of the form by this Saturday, July 16th so that we can submit the group order for the T-shirts on Sunday.  The T-shirts are $20 and will be printed by Patchwork Threads on a cotton-poly blend fabric and they tend to run a bit small-ish.  Let us know if you have any questions that can help in your decisions.
  • Heart Blocks for Pulse
Alyson just let us know that it's time to finish up and mail off any heart blocks for the Orlando MQG that you're working on.  From Alyson:

It's time to STOP (putting together hearts), DROP (them into an envelope or off with me), and MAIL (them if you need to).

There are currently 5 complete DCMQG quilt tops with some of our quilting/longarming volunteers and we are 1 heart shy of a 6th quilt top.  If everyone could get their hearts in the mail by the end of the week, this will give our piecers, quilters, binders, and labelers time to work their magic before the deadline.  If you are working on a private donation but need help with any of the steps also please let me know so we can plan for it.

I plan to be at the Finch field trip at the end of the month and some hand-offs can happen then, but any individual blocks that are received then will be sent as individual blocks - I cannot guarantee that they will make it into one of the DCMQG quilts.

  • Swap
The Summer Travel swap is underway with Nisha organizing!  Thanks, Nisha!  We'll be announcing future swap opportunities soon.
  • Sew-Alongs and Samplers Updates
Members have been busy sewing this summer!  Not only have people been cranking out charity blocks and personal projects but we're busy with our DCMQG Bee blocks, the DCMQG QAL that Anna started at the beginning of the year, the Color Challenge we started in March (#dcmqgcolorchallenge), as well as the Summer Sampler 2016 blocks organized in part by our former president/member Katie Blakesley (of SwimBikeQuilt).  Phew!  It makes me tired just documenting it all.  ;-)  It's been fun to see and be inspired by what everyone creates!

  • Upcoming meetings
On Saturday, July 30th, plan on meeting up for a fun day of sewing and shopping at Finch Knitting and Sewing Studio in Leesburg, VA.  I'll post more information the week before but the field trip is scheduled from 10-4pm that day.  Bring something to work on and/or show-and-tell!

Then at the end of August, we'll have our meeting up at Patches Quilt shop in Mt. Airy, MD!  Check the blog calendar for more upcoming dates to note.

What else am I missing?!?  Shout out below or email us if I've missed anything important or if there's anything you'd like us to announce!

See everyone soon.  Until then, happy sewing!  :-)
