Sherri Lynn Wood is coming!

We are so pleased to announce that Sherri Lynn Wood will be coming to the DC metro area, May 19-20, 2018 to present 2 workshops and a lecture/interactive performance for the DCMQG and our local area friends.  

Workshop and lecture details are below.  Some details are not available yet but will be published as soon as we have them. Workshop tickets will be open for members only on March 19th at 8:30pm.  Any remaining tickets will be available for non-members at additional cost on March 26th at 8:30pm.  Additional fee includes guild membership through June 2018. You must have a login at DCMQGshop.org in order to purchase a ticket; you may choose to pay with a check at the time of purchase.  

A little about Sherri:
Sherri Lynn Wood is the recipient of a Joan Mitchell Foundation Grant for Painters and Sculptors, two MacDowell Colony Fellowships, as well as arts residencies at the Headlands Center for the Arts, Blue Mountain Center, Virginia Center for the Creative Arts and most recently at Recology San Francisco in 2016. An interdisciplinary artist based in Oakland, CA, she has exhibited and performed locally at The Lab, Southern Exposure, Adobe Books and the San Francisco Museum of Craft and Folk Art. She holds an MFA from Bard College and a Masters of Theological Studies from Emory University.

Her 2015 publication The Improv Handbook for Modern Quilters: A Guide to Creating, Quilting & Living Courageously (Abrams) provides frameworks for creative exploration, along with practical instruction in stitching techniques and color theory. Sherri teachers and speaks about improvisational patchwork and flexible patterning at art and craft schools, guilds, and conferences nationally and abroad.

Sherri Lynn Wood, 2018Lecture: Ruler-Free Mashup

Basic strip, bias-strip, wedge, curve, stack, float, repetition, flow, bleeding, darting, natural fit, approximate measuring, trouble shooting, and composition tips, tricks and techniques for ruler-free improv patchwork will be demonstrated and performed on the spot according to audience prompts and participation. Bring "zingers" from your stash to be incorporated into the patchwork as it unfolds.
