2019 Bee

The 2019 DCMQG Bee finished up a few months ago, and now we get to look at all of the gorgeous blocks that were made.  This year we had five hives of five people each.  We even had a couple of people who were in two hives!  If you are not familiar with bees…here is how they work:  Each month in each hive one person tells the hive what type of block they want, and includes a tutorial or a link as well as guidance on colors. Hive members make two 12.5” blocks – or their equivalent – and send them off.  Sometimes someone sends out some or all of the fabric that they want to use in their blocks, and sometimes members are asked to sew from stash. Easy peasy, right? Pictures of these lovely blocks are all from the Instagram streams of the participants and in#dcmqg or #dcmqgbee.

This year there were all sorts of plus blocks asked for..
Claudia's were plus blocks

  and Dara's double plus blocks.

In Hive 2 both Meg and Jill choose chunky plus blocks.

Stars were also popular.  Amy S  asked for Kaffe Star with lawn fabric that she sent out.

Emily C  asked for Evening Star blocks

And Lynne asked her hive to make Serious Star blocks

Two quilters asked for lots of HSTs.  Angela's blocks were lots of  HST in one colorway,

As Megan choose the Ocean Waves block.

Mindy's triangles were of the flying goose variety.

There were wintery blocks such as Carolyn G's Santa and gnome blocks

  and Diana's patchwork holiday forest.

There were lots of blues.....

Amy P  blue jewelbox

Jennifer O's churn dash

Ann L's stripes

and reds...
Tanya  Ohio Trail block

and then blue and reds.
Erinn's self-drafted blocks

Emily A's sailboats

Lisa's hive started her on this sunflower quilt.

Alyson  continued her stunning Kaleidoscope quilt.

Dara's Wants Fanta blocks also create secondary patterns.

Barbara's shadow box blocks showcased big prints.

Amy C asked for Stash Buster blocks

Robin  sent her hive some Splash, Kona color of the year, to make quarter square improv log cabins that she then used to make charity quilts.

So, that's a wrap!  Want to join in the fun next year?  Look for sign-ups in December.
