February 2020 Meeting Recap

This month's meeting at Tint Makerspace was a treat! We packed into Carissa's gorgeous shop and enjoyed catching up with old friends, getting to know several new members, shopping (of course), and ogling some fabulous quilts in Show & Tell. It was a cozy, festive time and we are so grateful to Carissa for hosting us!

This is what Tint looks like when not invaded by 40 quilters.

Midway through the day we did our business meeting and Show & Tell. Below are some photos of the incredible work our members showed. The photos of course do not do justice, and I apologize that several are dark or blurry.

First up were three gorgeous quilts (including a striking Looper) by Carolyn G., who I think must not sleep because she seems to average about a quilt a week and also sews garments and apparently has a job and a life.

Next was Laurie (also prolific as ever!) with an absolutely adorable book quilt for her daughter, a new elementary school teacher, to use in her classroom. The pattern is Kate Basti's Tall Tale block.

It was fun to catch up with Anjeanette! You can't see her here, but you can admire her new pattern, Diamond Crossings. She made this version with Tula Pink Monkey Wrench fabric.

Frederick is back at it, making use of his scraps and mastering partial seams with some striped stars.

You can't see Melissa here, but she was wearing a teal handmade shirt that complemented her gorgeous Painted Forest quilt top (pattern by Scott Hansen of Blue Nickel Studios).

We're seeing lots of Plaidish quilts these days, but Ann L. is ahead of the pack by starting hers before there was ever talk of a quiltalong. Beautiful quilt and quilting, Ann!

Next, Tanya showed her Plaidish quilt top which is looking fabulous!

Martha is another busy bee: she brought in some pretty blue and white blocks with overlapping stripes, a plus block charity quilt, and some resurrected blocks in a cute watermelon print that she configured into another new charity quilt.

Mary Jane showed some colorful improv blocks she's been working on.

This photo doesn't capture the beautiful texture very well, but Eleanor showed us her progress with quilting-as-you-go.

Lisa P. makes such beautiful tote bags! This is another one she recently finished.

It was great to finally meet Tighe, who brought two QuiltCon "rejects" that had us all shaking our heads. (He'll have a few other quilts in the show, luckily!) Some challenging piecing with incredible results!

Cindy wowed us with a finished Glam Clam quilt from our Latifah Saafir workshop along with a stunning New York Beauty.

Carol is almost finished with this cozy looking improv quilt and showed an impressive felted patchwork wall hanging that she pieced by hand.

Barbara has also had a productive winter! She quilted a charity quilt pieced by another of our members; finished an old quarter log cabin WIP for charity; made a pretty tote bag; and is working on a red and white Patchwork Forest that cleverly incorporates a black and white starry sky.

Thanks, everyone, for coming to the meeting and especially to TINT for hosting! We look forward to seeing you all again on March 14 at the Wisconsin Place Community Center in Friendship Heights.
