Block Challenge 2020

Did you know that each month, the MQG puts out a block or whole quilt pattern that is free for members? Did you also know that by joining the DCMQG you are automatically enrolled as a member of the National MQG? Starting in 2019, DCMQG invited you to sew along to build a sampler of blocks each month.  Continuing the fun in 2020 with a new monthly sew along, we will continue to feature some of our favorite blocks from the MQG archives. Bring your block to the next monthly meeting to be entered to win a prize - complete all 12 blocks and you'll be entered to win a GRAND PRIZE. (That won't be awarded until January 2021, of course.) Blocks are typically announced in the first Thursday Stitch each month. We hope you'll join in the fun!

January 2020

January's Third Thursday Challenge block is Parameters by Tiffany Horn, an individual member from New York of the MQG. This block has lots of potential on its own or combined with other blocks to make a cool design.

February 2020

February's Third Thursday Challenge block is Strut, designed by Silvia Sutters, an DC MQG member. This block makes clever use of asymmetry, strip piecing, and diagonal cutting.

March 2020

March's Block of the Month (below) is Scaled Triangles, designed by Jessica Skultety (@quiltyhabit) who many of DC MQG members know from MidAtlantic Mod. It's a great block for experimenting with contrast and negative space.

April 2020

April's block is Lockup, by Riane Menardi for the MQG. How could we resist Lockup during a lockdown? It's a simple, strip-pieced block and meant to look like...a jail. Art is everywhere! Really - check out the possibilities! We think you will enjoy this block.
