February 11th Meeting Recap

A post from 2016 QAL was sent out earlier this evening in error.

Meeting Recap for
Saturday, February 11

Highlights:

Don't forget about our quilt show MODERN MAKERS, MODERN QUILTS in cooperation with the Arlington County Costume Lab. There will be a reception on March 1 from 6.30-8pm. PLEASE RSVP by 2/22 (TOMORROW) to costumes@arlingtonva.us. Fellow guild members have made some stunning pieces that are on display in the show!
We were thrilled to announce that we will be hosting a workshop with Latifah Safiron October 14!  More information (including sign-ups) will be sent at a later date.
We are working two other awesome workshops and will reveal those once the contracts are signed.  Any guesses??
We had two door prizes, including a Quilter’s Planner and a Joel Dewberry charm pack. There will be a number of great door prizes this year, so come to meetings often to have a chance to win something special.
If any members know of, or can help procure, meeting spaces that are free or have a nominal fee, please reach out to the board (email dcmodquilts@gmail.com). Free rooms for meetings, mean more available funds for activities.
We introduced a new charitable initiative, 100 pouches for Women in Domestic ViWeolence Centers.  We hope to fill those pouches with personal products.  So far we have received generous donations from:
YKK Zippers
Michael Miller Fabrics.
Anna Maria Horner
100 full toiletry kits and large perfume samples.
Members donations of boxes of sanitary products, packages of underwear and dental kits.
We encourage all of you to reach out to your communities for donations of items for the pouches.  We would like to put a number of products in each pouch. Some suggestions:
                           Hotel toiletry sets
                           Cosmetics/perfumes from “gifts w/purchases
                           Swag from cosmetic counters
Packs of women’s undergarments, sanitary items, hair ties, etc.

All products donated should be new, unused.

If you would like contribute funds towards purchasing some of these items, please send the board an email
If you have any questions about this project, please contact Nisha – nisha.bouri@gmail.com

We hope to see you all at our next meeting on March 11 at the Montgomery County Council Office Bldg Cafeteria (100 Maryland Ave, Rockville, MD 20850)  Red line stop walking distance.
And, of course the highlight of the meeting was Show & Tell!  There was a wide range of themes and projects, here are some pictures:

Robin made this mini based on the letter ‘F’ – the fabric has pomegranates on it, so she titled this Fractured Fruit:
