August Meeting at Finch

Finch is Fun!

For our August meeting we met at this past Saturday at, Finch Knitting Sewing Studio, one of our business members. As the title says, we had a lot of fun and we had a great turn out!

Members were there when the shop opened.  Nicole made all of her Bernina's available for members and many took advantage of the opportunity.  While enjoying mimosas, we went a little nuts with the discount Nicole gave us!  She had some of the new Cotton and Steel, an incredible sale section, Carolyn Friedlander Arroyo Essex Linen and some of us scored a some Rifle Paper Co. Menagerie that was left over from the July Finch Box.

After members had a leisurely lunch at outdoor cafes, we gathered in the large yarn room for the business meeting.

Nicole, owner of Finch Sewing Studio

Nicole thanked us for coming.  She also gave us the cool "Finch Tribe" buttons!  Nicole told us about a number of upcoming activities which you can find at their website finchknittingsewingstudio.com

Phyliss gave an update on:
  • Violet Craft's workshop-September 17 (there are some spots available)
  • Retreat (we added two overnight spots if you are interested, and three day passes are available
  • Latifah Saafir- October 14.  Members will receive a survey to find out which pattern you would like to do at her workshop.
  • CostumeLab Members will be asked what kind of workshop they would like CostumeLab to offer us in the survey.  Last year it was a dying fabric workshop.
  • Quilt Show - The theme is "Local Architecture" to be interpreted anyway the maker chooses. Members received an email with explanation and a rules attachment.  If you cannot open the doc, try a different browser or email us and we will send it to you directly.
  • Nisha has had to step down as secretary due to time demands with her company and school.  However, Nisha will remain coordinator of our charity drive of 100 zip bags with toiletries for abused women in shelters.
  • Elections are coming up and we encourage members to consider running.  We also need someone to fill Nisha's spot now.

Erinn Announcements (she took these great photos)
  • Michael Miller Challenge packs to have arrived.  She handed them out for those in attendance.  Please contact Erinn if you signed up and missed the meeting,  She will send it to you.
  • Membership renewals are due!
