July Meeting Recap

Each year DCMQG has a charity project.  This year we have two.

We kicked off our first of two projects at our July meeting. Our goal is to make 100 pouches to fill with personal and toiletry items for women in domestic violence shelters. Our finished zip pouches will go to Asha for Women and District Alliance For Safe Housing

We used Noodlehead's Large Open Wide Zippered Pouch pattern. Using fabric that was donated by Michael Miller Fabrics, Riley Blake and Anna Maria Horner, we created an assembly line. There were cutters, basters, quilters, zipperers (donated by YKK Zippers) and seamers!  In addition to the fabric and zipper donations, Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts donated toiletries, Dr. Lydia Hudson donated dental items, and DCMQG members donated sanitary items, fabric, batting and more!

We had a lot of fun while pumping out the pouches!   Most exciting were the number of new members who came to their first meeting ready to work. It was a great start toward our goal of the one hundred.
Many members took kits and have been completing them at home.  We will continue to work on the bags. If any members are ready for more kits, let us know at dcmodquilts@gmail.com. Please bring any completed bags to our August 12 at Finch Sewing Studio or contact Nisha to arrange a drop off.

We hope to the deliver the first round of pouches after the August Meeting. If you are

interested in participating in this, please let Nisha know so that we can coordinate.
