DCMQG Heading into Winter

As we welcome(?!) winter, here is a look back at the many activities we had this autumn.  In this post you can read about our workshops with Violet Craft and Latifah Saafir, our Fall Retreat and our October Meeting. For more photos on all of our activities check out @dcmqg and #dcmqg on Instagram.

Violet Craft Workshop
Sunday, September 17

We had a great workshop.  She taught her tried and true techniques for foundation paper piecing and guided members through the pattern of their choosing.

Participants chose a variety of Violet's patterns including her Elephant Abstractions, Hoppington and Elevated Abstractions. Violet brought a variety of paper pieced quilts to show us which was a bonus for this day-long workshop.

Violet's unique tips and tricks were great. From creasing the paper using an add-a-quarter ruler to using her custom roller to flatten seams without ironing, it was fun to learn from a master. The class was relaxed and at your own pace as Violet worked the room spending time with each student.

We can't wait to see all of the finished products! Don't forget to use the hashtag #dcmqg to show off your work.

DCMQG Fall Retreat
Thursday, September 21 - Sunday, September 24, 2017

We had a full house and great weather!

The weekend in the Blue Mountains was a wonderful respite from our hectic lives. This year members had the option to add on Thursday and all but two were able to start their weekend early!

As always we spent our day in the sewing studio, everyone worked at their own pace  We had early risers and late night sewers. In the photo below, Susan is basting her quilt under the stars with Linda!

Some took time to hike along the canal, and a bunch went to Webs to replenish their supplies!

We had an optional one hour basket swap.  The yankee swap always brings lots of fun and laughs.  We had three games of Left Right Center and Beth cooked delicious meals for us. It was a weekend filled with good friends, good food and good fiber.

Latifah Saafir Workshop
Saturday, October 14

Latifah welcomed us to her Glam Clam workshop.  She showed us some of the quilts she made with the pattern.  It was an amazing to see the pattern transformed by the different fabrics and layouts.

Latifah walked us through the project, giving demos at each juncture and then working with us individually.

Following the workshop, Latifah gave held a lecture/trunk show.  Members agreed that she is gifted teacher.  Natalie won the price, she finished her quilt before the class ended! Many have since finished theirs.
