2018 DCMQG Bee

The DCMQG Bee started in February this year and finished up in July. Twenty two of our members participated, divided into four hives. If you are not familiar with bees…here is how they work; all of the people who want to participate are divided into hives of 5 or 6 people each. Each month in each hive one person tells the hive what type of block they want, and includes a tutorial or a link as well as guidance on colors. Members make two 12.5” blocks – or their equivalent – and send them off. Sometimes someone sends out some or all of the fabric that they want to use in their blocks, and sometimes members are asked to sew from stash. Easy peasy, right? Pictures of these lovely blocks are all from the Instagram streams of the participants and in #dcmqgbee.

Wonky stars were very popular this year.  Lisa asked for some with low volume background,

as Ashley went with orange and purple stars.

Lisa’s stars were of the mini variety,

And Arlene’s stars were mostly reversed with light stars and bright background.

Three members went for scrappy goodness, with Diana asking for slab blocks,

and Laurie with Trip Around the World blocks.

Amy’s blocks were also stash busters.

Two people asked for churn dashes. Jennifer with the traditional block in blues

and Cassandra with large and small blocks and improv filling.

Triangle blocks are always popular. Heather chose the broken dishes block

as Phyliss asked for these pieced flying geese blocks.

Two of our members opted for feather blocks. Here are ones made for Carolyn...

and for Amy...

Three members were continuing in the bee, asking for more of the same blocks that they had done before. Megan asked for more stars

while Lynne continued for solid X Plus blocks

And Linda asked for more daises.

Eunice asked for Weather Vane blocks

Kristina wanted low volume slabs with a pop of color.

This X Marks the Spot block is for Emily

Claudia is collecting these Scrappy Susannah blocks

Alyson wanted Kaleidoscope blocks

And, looking ahead to the holidays, Carolyn C asked for gnome/Santa and tree blocks.

So, that's a wrap for this year’s bee. We will start again in January, with a sign up going out in December. Come join us in the next round!
