2015 Wrap Up

2015 is a guild year that I'm really proud of.  I've been looking over the pictures for a week or so trying to put together a few coherent words.

The big story of the DCMQG in 2015 is that we grew to nearly 80 members.  We tried some new venues and had to let go of some of our smaller meeting places to make space for our fabulous group.

We hosted a workshop with Denyse Schmidt,
Sharing my pic of Denyse Schmidt here and on the #DCMQG blog a little later today.

held our first big lecture open to the public,
DS lecture June 2015 with the DCMQG

had a paper pieced log cabin workshop with Mary Fons
I had a lovely workshop with @yomaryfons today. She is so talented, funny and approachable. It was a lot of fun. #DCMQG

and then another lecture with Lizzy House.
It's like I set out to try to take a weird picture of Lizzy House at Thursday night's #DCMQG lecture event. This was the best of the three photos I took. Maybe she's trying to fly away after I embarrassed myself talking with her...

Together we made a huge pile (52!!) of charity quilts to donate to the DC General homeless shelter.

We had some great meeting tutorials at from Jessie Aller
Thanks for the great tutorial at today's meeting, @jessiealler!

and Cindy Luby.
I forgot to post this picture of @cindy_sews teaching some apparel sewing techniques at the October guild meeting. Cindy was amazing and I have to share the handout she made for us with some great links to tutorials online.

We made some collaborative quilts for some special members.
@treadletothemetal and the guild quilt she put together for @pilarandolivia. It was a real treat to watch a guild quilt recipient see it for the first time.

We got some great group photos, too.  Here is our outdoor meeting at the US Botanical Gardens,

field trip to the DAR,
I got to see these 17 beautiful faces at the #DCMQGfieldtrip to the DAR Museum. What a great turn out! Plus we had two brand new members join us and two members that were new from the January meeting.

(another) field trip to the Renwick,

and at the November retreat,

Surprise!  We also did some fabric shopping together.
Carissa, Pam, Alyson and a new member from early February, Carolyn. #delrayfabrics #dcmqgfieldtrip

This summary doesn't even show the pretty swaps we did (pincushion, pouch and Solstice swaps), the hijinks at retreats, the guild bee, the logo contest, the group quilt for QuiltCon or the oodles of beauty and inspiration shared at show and tell.

It was a pleasure getting to know all of you better and sewing with you in 2015.  I'm looking forward to so much with the DCMQG in 2016.  We are in excellent hands with Natalie, Carissa, Robin and Leah.

Lots of stitchy love,
Melinda
