2015 is a guild year that I'm really proud of. I've been looking
over the pictures for a week or so trying to put together a few coherent words.
The big story of the DCMQG in 2015 is that we grew to nearly 80 members. We tried some new venues and had to let go of some of our smaller meeting places to make space for our fabulous group.
We hosted a workshop with Denyse Schmidt,
held our first big lecture open to the public,
had a paper pieced log cabin workshop with Mary Fons
and then another lecture with Lizzy House.
Together we made a huge pile (52!!) of charity quilts to donate to the DC General homeless shelter.
We had some great meeting tutorials at from Jessie Aller
and Cindy Luby.
We made some collaborative quilts for some special members.
We got some great group photos, too. Here is our outdoor meeting at the US Botanical Gardens,
field trip to the DAR,
(another) field trip to the Renwick,
the Denyse Schmidt workshop,
and at the November retreat,
Surprise! We also did some fabric shopping together.
This summary doesn't even show the pretty swaps we did (pincushion, pouch and Solstice swaps), the hijinks at retreats, the guild bee, the logo contest, the group quilt for QuiltCon or the oodles of beauty and inspiration shared at show and tell.
It was a pleasure getting to know all of you better and sewing with you in 2015. I'm looking forward to so much with the DCMQG in 2016. We are in excellent hands with Natalie, Carissa, Robin and Leah.
Lots of stitchy love,
Melinda
