DCMQG Retreat Recap: March 8-11, 2018

Another successful DCMQG retreat is in the books!  An enormous thank you goes to our fearless leader and director of fun, Phyliss, who plans every detail of the weekend and makes it look easy.

Dance Break! Blue Mountain Retreat Center, March 2018

Lynne was the first to arrive on Thursday, soon followed by Angela and Phyliss.  Other attendees on Thursday were Anne, Cassandra, Lisa, Dara, Carolyn, Robin, Elle, Martha, Aubrie, and Jennifer.

Some quilters worked on their Mighty Lucky projects, some of us machine quilted our WIPs, some completed quilt tops… we were a busy group!  A new tradition was born: Every hour we get up and dance to a groovy tune. It really helped to get the blood flowing and Dara kept us on schedule.  Rule #2 is to stop and drink water. Lisa reminded us of that. Elle and Aubrie introduced us to a new online game called HQ Trivia but nobody won the big jackpot.

On Friday, Claudia, Ann, and Melissa joined us. Some of us walked on the canal and some went to Web Fabrics. The Ombre Confetti Metallic fabric by V and Company was a popular choice.

Saturday brought us the day people:  Alyson, our president, and also Ashley, Anjeanette, and Jane.  Another group went shopping at Web and some of us gathered in the lodge to do EPP, basting, knitting, and even spinning (Ashley.) Some of us got massages by a new masseuse also named Beth. We played our traditional retreat favorite, Left Right Center, and the winners of the fat quarters were Aubrie, Cassandra, and Anne.  There was a vinyl pouch swap: participants were Lynne, Martha, Cassandra, Melissa, Claudia, and Phyliss. We presented a gorgeous quilt top to a very surprised and grateful Lisa. Also during the retreat, Aubrie machine quilted Heather's baby quilt, Robin trimmed it and prepared the binding and Anne sewed it on.

On Saturday night, we had a surprise visit from Gretchen who brought us a home-baked cake!  Many of us could not resist it and ate the cake before dinner. A big thank you to Melissa, Claudia, and Robin for getting dinner on the table.

The weather was cold and we even had a few snow flurries on Thursday and Friday but Saturday and Sunday were sunny with blue skies.  We lost an hour on Sunday due to Daylight Savings Time and one by one, we took our leave of this magical place shared with dear friends.  To those of you not in attendance, we missed you terribly!

Next retreat is September 27-30, 2018.  Be there or be square!
